A message from the Executive Director

Dear Reader/Viewer,

I am pleased to let you know about Bright Orphaned and Vulnerable Children’s Centre, Uganda (BOVCCU).

BOVCCU is a voluntary organization that was started to help creating better opportunities for orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) after a community consultation based on the over growing number of OVCs mainly due to HIV/AIDS. The workcamp project participants will also engage in promotion of primary health care and home hygiene in general.

HIV/AIDS is still alarming in Uganda and has a bigger impact on the African Communities than any other Communities. Even though Uganda has some promise on HIV/AIDS prevention, many children have been left Orphans and, or Vulnerable. BOVCCU has to come in to support the OVCs by providing all necessary social and economical support.

In Uganda it’s becoming an order of the day to find grandparents surrounded by a fleet of grandchildren, families headed by adolescents, dying adults being nursed by their children and children scattered among relatives

Many orphans have been and continue to be traumatized by the loss of their parents.
As a result, many children are considered to be living in absolute poverty and most of these are below 18years age.
Poverty has a direct effect on children’s lives, as poor children have little access to health services, education, clean water and many other essential needs.

Many times orphans and other Vulnerable children in the Community send the day and go to sleep hungry for some good time, have no adequate medication, clothes, beddings and transportation to the Government Health Centres which are located far away from their Communities.

The reason to why I appeal to you all is that I believe you have some interests, experiences and skills, which could be quite beneficial to our project.

We are under a bit of pressure to plan for the over growing number of OVCs in the Community. So we need all possible assistance that you can offer.

This work has a number of Challenges as the needs of orphan are long term and need long term sustainability.

A commitment is needed to support each child by giving him or her strong educational foundation, a good time, self-esteem and values, and to help them plan how they can earn a steady livelihood as a step towards improving their standard of living.

The fact is that, in our circumstance, all tasks have become urgent. I therefore urge you to please see the areas where you can help. Even your thoughts alone on an issue could make a difference. No assistance is too small.

I also invite people from worldwide communities to become BOVCCU Volunteersor to assist with organization activities, which include teaching, providing health education and awareness to orphans, care givers and families adopting orphans.

I hope you will answer my appeal to help the orphans of Uganda and contact me wit h any queries or concerns.

Looking forward for a positive response from you.
Best wishes
